Subject-Verb Agreement: ১০টি মূল নিয়ম যা না জানলেই নম্বর কাটা

বাক্যের Subject একবচন হলে Verb একবচন, বহুবচন হলে Verb বহুবচন — নিয়ম সহজ, কিন্তু ফাঁদ অনেক।

1. and দিয়ে দুটি Subject → plural: Rahim and Karim are friends.
2. কিন্তু একই জিনিস/ব্যক্তি বোঝালে singular: Bread and butter is my breakfast. The poet and philosopher is dead.
3. each, every, either, neither → singular: Each of the boys has a book.
4. one of + plural noun → singular verb: One of my friends is a doctor.
5. either…or / neither…nor → কাছের Subject অনুযায়ী: Neither he nor his friends were present.
6. as well as, with, along with → প্রথম Subject অনুযায়ী: The teacher, with his students, is coming.
7. The number of → singular; A number of → plural: The number of students is 50. A number of students are absent.
8. দূরত্ব, টাকা, সময় একক হিসেবে → singular: Ten kilometres is a long way.
9. Subject আর Verb-এর মাঝে phrase থাকলে মূল Subject খুঁজুন: The box of pens is on the table.
10. there is/are পরের noun অনুযায়ী: There is a pen. There are two pens.

অনুশীলনী
